Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere is a rookie GM, but he sure isn’t acting like one. He completed a big trade earlier in the day that sent Sean Walker to the Colorado Avalanche for a first round pick and Ryan Johansen. He also shipped a 2026 fifth round pick, and it must have irritated him.
The Flyers get a 5th round 2024 pick for brokering the deal with the Vegas Golden Knights, essentially the one they traded with the Sean Walker deal, for retaining $1.237 million of Noah Hanifin’s salary for the 2023-24 season. In addition, the Flyers still have approximately $2.6 million of deadline cap space to use, all per Cap Friendly.
In addition, the Flyers have also sent the rights to reserve list player Mikhail Vorobyov to Vegas to complete the paper part of the deal. Vegas will now control Vorobyov’s rights through June 30, 2024.
pros.
It’s about time a Flyers GM got creative, and he should be in the running for GM of the year. Moreover, the Flyers now have 11 picks at the 2024 NHL Draft.
