The momentum shifted back to the New York Rangers’ side on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately, the Flyers just couldn’t do what they did in their last game against the Rangers (Thursday, April 22). The Rangers took control of the game and the Flyers’ change to Alex Lyon in goal did not help, as they went on to lose 4-1.
This is the type of frustrating game Flyers fans have been witnessing throughout the entire season. The season can be summed up by tonight’s game, which was another frustrating loss.
Hopefully, the Flyers will continue to show effort the rest of the way as the playoffs seem out of reach for them.
Just 6:02 in to the opening period, the Rangers got on the board first with a power play goal by Chris Kreider off a great pass by Artemi Panarin to give them a 1-0 lead.
45 Seconds later, Oskar Lindblom tied the game as he maneuvered the puck with a backhand that passed the Rangers goalie Alexander Georgiev to tie the game up at one.
Late in the first period, the Rangers got another great opportunity to make it a 2-1 game when Mika Zibanejad gave a nice pass to Pavel Buchnevich who zipped the puck past Flyers goalie Alex Lyon at close range to secure the 2-1 lead for the Rangers.
It was a quiet second period for both teams. The Flyers had trouble getting it going offensively and squandered a 5-on-3 man advantage, and this appeared to be one of the turning points in the game, said Flyers Head Coach Alain Vigneault following the game.
Midway through the third period, the Rangers kept pressing offensively with some good looks and Pavel Buchnevich pushed the puck a little bit to Alexis Lafreniere and Lafreniere punched it past Flyers goalie Alex Lyon to make it a two goal Ranger lead, 3-1.
With 6:20 left in the game, the Rangers scored again to lead 4-1. The Rangers Filip Chytil wristed a shot toward the right corner of the goal and it hit Alex Lyon and bounced into the net.
The Flyers take another loss, losing 4-1, and now they are 21-19-7 on the season.
Cam York
Cam York looked very comfortable last night for the Phantoms. I love the way he spins off players when he has the puck. York finished his checks, and of course his gap control was impeccable. A comfortable York is a dangerous York, and he looked more like himself last night.
Yegor Zamula
Yegor Zamula had a great game last night for the Phantoms. He finished with two assists, and he just was dialed in from the start. Zamula played well with the puck tonight, and was very aggressive with joining the rush.
He was successful with suffocating his opponents, thus forcing turnovers. This was arguably his best game of the season in my opinion.
Tyson Foerster
What impresses me about Tyson Foerster is his ability to lift the puck “Top shelf where momma hides the cookies.” He has a natural ability to score goals, and that is something the Flyers can use right now.
Foerster tallied two goals again last night. This was the third time he has scored two goals in the past five games. His skating has vastly improved, and he has a great shot. Foerster will compete for a job with the big club next season.
