The Flyers finish the two game series with the Boston Bruins tonight in Philadelphia. Both teams barreling for the top seed in the first place. Carter Hart suffered back spasms and could not play, the Flyers went with Brian Elliott against Tuukka Rask. Let’s get into it.
Defensive Battle
Both the Flyers and Bruins really played tight defense in this matchup. The Bruins were held to to 13 shots through two periods. Moreover, this is something the Flyers have struggled with this year… tightening the defense, and really slowing down the number of shots the starting goalie would face a night. The game was a really great defensive matchup. In a league full of offense, it’s great to watch a tight, close defensive game like we saw tonight.
NAK drop the gloves; Farabee a penalty shot
Sometimes you see things, you just don’t see every game. Tonight in the first period, we saw Nicolas Aubé-Kubel drop the gloves against Connor Clifton for the Bruins. Ya just don’t see the gloves dropped much so it was quiet the treat, even for a light weight bout. Something else you don’t see, a penalty shot. Joel Farabee stays active as he received the “point to center ice” for being taken down on the breakaway, with maybe a little acting involved. Farabee went “Five-hole” but Tukka was ready, and kept the game remained tied 0-0.
JVR off to a great start
Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk is off to a career start, scoring six goals and 10 assists in 12 games played this season. JvR netted the only goal for the Flyers tonight on a tip on play on the Power Play. He has scored five Power Play goals this season, while only having four all of last year. He’s off to an incredible start and is a huge part of the teams offense.
Let’s hope Oskar Lindblom is ok. He went down the tunnel following a big late hit by Clifton in the third period.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it
