I think we all could agree that Travis Konecny’s (TK) play has been nothing short of electric and has only improved with every passing year. This season after signing a new $33 Million dollar deal that will pay him $5.5 Million a season over the next six years, might just have been the steal of the offseason. Konecny who this season was out to prove that he is in fact deserving of that new contract played at a level that saw him being selected to represent the Flyers this past January at the NHL All-Star Game. So what could be better than Travis Konecny? How about having another player just like him? Welcome in 18-year-old Seth Jarvis to the discussion, a winger for the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Watching game tape from Jarvis the last two seasons compared to that of Konecny’s time with the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League you can see some uncanny similarities.
To start out with both players are 5’10″ and around 170 to 175 pounds, and both primarily play the right wing position. When looking at their numbers from their draft years you can see that they resemble each other’s as well. With the only exception that Seth’s season was cut short playing two less games then Travis.
Name | Goals | Assists | Points | Plus/Minus | Point Per Game |
Seth Jarvis 19’-20’ | 42 | 56 | 98 | +53 | 1.68 |
Travis Konecny15’-16’ | 30 | 71 | 101 | +33 | 1.68 |
Both players seemed to always find themselves on breakaways or involved with fast breaks whether they be 1 on 0, or 2 on 1’s it did not matter. They would most frequently result in goals for their team. This could be attributed to their incredible hustle, both seeming to have a motor that just won’t quick. Which allows both Jarvis and Konecny to appear like they could play the full 60 minutes without ever coming off the ice; even then appearing to have some still left in the tank for an overtime session if needed.
Taking a look further into the play of Seth Jarvis you will notice that he is an elite goal scorer with the ability to skate the puck the full 200ft of the ice. Managing to accelerating past, around, and through opposing players with the puck seemingly glued to his stick leaving spectators with the illusion that those players must be skating with cement blocks as skates. Jarvis’s speed is unmatched in this year’s draft class to say the least with no one else even coming close!
In this offensively heavy draft class the Flyers would be wise to select this speedy winger with great hands, a tremendous shot and lightning quick feet. Whose play stands a striking resemblance to that of our very own Travis Konecny’s. If you don’t believe me just watch the tapes and see for yourself.
Where is he rated by scouts?
Thanks for the read, good question. It’s tough to guess now with the seating of teams uncertain. What teams need what kind of thing. But, he is seated on most people’s boards anywhere from Mid-1st rd to late 1st rd. His stock is rising all the time though. Seth just won some WHL after this article came out.
*Some WHL Awards. (Don’t know why that part didn’t transfer right)
