Flyers Developmental Camp is a joyful time for the players that are selected to attend, and for the fans that make the trek out to the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ, where the Flyers practice throughout the course of the season.
Due to COVID-19 Flyers Developmental Camp was cancelled last season, and honestly it appeared that it would not take place this season either. The Flyers were going to have rookie camp intertwined with Training Camp, but Developmental Camp is a time to show off the new draft picks, and in most cases it’s the only time to showcase NCAA players.
Fortunately, the Flyers have officially released the roster for this year’s Developmental Camp that will run from August 29-September 1, and are the quotes and photos from the first day of Developmental Camp.
Kirill Ustimenko looked very good coming off his injury. He moved laterally from post to post very well.
Wade Allison stood out above the rest today. Allison skates very hard, and he would like at his skate after making some tough cuts. Allison was fast, decisive with his decision making, and had one hell of a shot.
A couple of things to note. Zayde Wisdom is on the official roster, which is good news considering he just had shoulder surgery a few weeks ago. I did run into him briefly and he seemed in good spirits oh, he was laughing and smiling with staff. Another neat note is Flyers 7th Round Draft Pick in Owen McLaughlin. The Phoenixville, PA native will attend his first Developmental Camp as a member of the Flyers organization. In addition, it appears Tanner Laczynski is 100% healthy, as he made the official roster. Morgan Frost should have a great camp as he succeeds at camps, and Samu Tuomaala put forth one heck of a day. Cam York was very confident today, as he was a fast skater and performed some Spin O’ Rama’s for us today.
One last note folks: Please do not make a big deal out of non participants in Ronnie Attard, Jay O’ Brien, Bobby Brink, and Noah Cates. Remember Developmental Camp is usually in June, not almost September, so due to NCAA rules they may not be allowed to attend this event.
The Flyers have ruled out fans for this event the entire event from August 29-September 1 is closed to the public.
Love hearing about the prospects especially since some of these kids have a real good chance to make the team and put up some numbers.
