Flyers new hulking draft pick Matteo Mann was like a kid in a candy store when he hurt his name get called by the Philadelphia Flyers in the seventh round with the 199th overall pick. He stands at 6’6 and is about the same height as former Flyer and Development coach Samuel Morin.

Mann literally stood out in a good way, with his mobility given his size. He moves quite impressively, but I like the way he uses his stick to break up plays. Another feature of his game I like is standing players up at the blueline, and that is something he does for the Chicoutiami Sagueens.

season.

If Mann continues this at camp, that would be great for his development.

Ethan Samson

Samson is looking to earn a spot with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He’s actually a bit impressive, and one underrated part of his game is his skating.

I don’t think enough people talk about the way he skates, some just talk about the offensive side of the game. He transitions well, and it really helps his bread and butter, that being the Power Play. Samson also has an accurate shot from the point.

As stated above, Samson’s offensive game has always been there, but he’s become more defensively responsible. Defense is obviously his position, so it’s good his 200ft game has improved. The offense has always been there, but when he skates like he does above he’s become more reliable on the backend, as well. Good for him for working hard with his overall game.

Hunter McDonald

Hunter can surprise some people, and he did on the first day of camp today. His mobility was one big reason.

Former Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher mentioned last week that he will surprise some people, so let’s see what happens. His overall game has vastly improved with Northeastern, so anything is possible.

His overall shot has improved, thus his 13 assists last season at college. He finished the year with one goal and 13 assists on the season in 35 games played. He’s off to a great start at Developmental Camp.

Tyson Foerster

Foerster is known for his precision and accurate shot. He has changed his jersey number to #18, and here is why:

“They asked me if I wanted a chance, and I sad yea sure. Growing up it’s always 8 or 18, 18 is my birthday so I chose that.” – Tyson Foerster on changing his jersey number

What will happen in day 2 of camp?
