Philippe Myers is young and isn’t super new to Flyers fans, as he and Travis Sanheim were seen shutting teams down on the blue line before the pause. Fresh off signing his new contract with the Flyers Myers just wants to get the ball rolling:
“It’s an honor (Signing an extension). I’m really happy to be back for another 3 years. These are the group of guys I want to go all the way with.” Myers said on Sirius radio last week, as Zack Hill sent me the audio.
For Myers, he made his playoff debut and tallied a beautiful snipe in his first playoff game against the Boston Bruins in the Round-Robin Tournament. Moreover, Myers made more history in the unconventional playoffs as he became the first defenseman since Andy Delmore (May 3, 2000) to score an overtime winner. Myers also became the first Flyer player since 2011-12 (Danny Briere) to pot an overtime winner in a playoff game. He skates like the wind, and when he gets caught in his own deep he can catch up to any player.
Myers was trusted by Head Coach Alain Vigneault to play against top lines, and was also trusted in late game situations. This could be one reason he was gaining much confidence before the pause and excelling. His gap control was impeccable, as he continued to take away space from his opponents. This puts more pressure on his opponents, thus forcing them into making uncharacteristic mistakes, but he gives one heck of a shoutout to Flyers star defenseman Ivan Provorov:
“I’m excited to get back. No matter who I play with we have eight good defenseman. I’ll be happy if I’ll play with Provy. He’s one of the best defenseman in the league.” -Philippe Myers
Flyers Assistant Coach Mike Yeo has been on record speaking highly about Myers during Training Camp in the Summer, “This was the best Phil Myers has looked today.”

It should come as no shock that Myers is rocking right now. He’s one of the hardest working Flyers, and he’s fresh off signing a brand new contract. Look for an expanded role for Myers this season with the loss of Matt Niskanen to retirement.
