First Joel Farabee underwent successful disc replacement surgery in his cervical region earlier this offseason with an injury sustained during an offseason workout, now Bobby Brink.
Brink recently underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip. Dr. Christopher Larson of Twin Cities Orthopedics in Minneapolis performed the surgery. He is expected to return to play in approximately five months, marking his return sometime in January/February.
The good news is the Flyers will not have to make alternative arrangements to fill his void in the lineup, as there was no clear indication he would make the team outright out of camp. However, he may miss John Tortorella’s tough training camp, or parts of it for that matter. This would have been a good time to really get to know Torts. It’s going to be a tough grueling camp, and Brink might not be able to take in certain portions of camp.
What Brink brings is a good hockey and hockey awareness. Brink is very good at pushing the play up the ice. He’s proven time and time again with his agility and edge work to get by defenders in one-on-one situations that he can be relied upon offensively. Brink is an outstanding playmaker off the wing, who possesses great vision of the ice. He is also a good defender.
Injuries are starting to mount for the Flyers and the offseason isn’t even halfway complete. First Joel Farabee and Ryan Ellis, then Ivan Fedotov’s situation, now Brink. What else can go wrong for the Flyers? It feels as though they are cursed.
I want to see how fletch blames the trainers for this, the kid just signed, just like Ellis.
