Ryan Ufko is a 5’10, Right-Handed defenseman on the Chicago Steel, to which he had a really strong 2020-21 campaign. He tallied 39 points in 53 games played, potting 10 goals and 29 assists along with 14 penalty minutes. Ufko weighs 180 pounds and can really whip the puck around, especially on the Power Play. He has committed to the University of Massachusetts (UMass) next year. Let’s dive into this interview.
Have you talked to any teams yet? Flyers by any chance?
- Yes I have. I have spoken to quite a few but not the Flyers
How would you say your last year playing was? Anything you wanted to work on this off-season?
- I would say it was pretty well. And that my offensive game really picked up and I felt really confident in it. I am working on getting stronger and foot speed over the summer
You had a good year of production and numbers prove it. What was the transition from 16U to USHL like for you?
- It was tough at first to adjust to the speed and physicality but after 5 games. I would say I adjusted and had a good sense for it
How excited are you for UMass? Going to a good program after they just won their first National title.
- Yeah definitely. I’m actually there now for summer camp. But it will be very fun and exciting
How has that been so far? How long is it
- Couple weeks. It’s been fun meeting the guys and getting used to campus
If you could play with any NHL player as your Defensive partner who would that be?
- I would say Adam fox. I love watching his game and feel that we have a lot of similarities. I think it would be really cool to play with him
Thanks for your time Ryan! Wish you the best of luck. I hope you have a great summer.
