The Flyers could take a variety of different angles in regards to the NHL Draft next week. Will General Manager Chuck Fletcher restock the cupboard with a Right-Handed Defenseman? Or will he snag a sniper at some point? These are both valid questions. If he tends to go down the route of a good two-way playmaker, with great scoring ability then I bet he has eyes set on Tristen Robins who plays for the Saskatoon Blades:

“My dad defined me. He has been everything,” Robins said to me in an interview. “He played the game about 15 years ago, and he has been through it all. He has taught me a lot.”

Tristen Robins

Trevor Robins, Tristen’s dad, was a Goaltender for the Saskatoon Blades and he managed to play the sport of hockey for 13 years. Trevor made it as high as the ECHL level. It’s funny to know that Tristen wanted to be a Goaltender like his dad Trevor, according to The Starphoenix.com, “I would say I’m a good two-way playmaker, with a high offensive scoring ability,” Tristen described himself as. Well, he is pretty accurate with his description as he tallied 33 goals, and registered 40 assists for the Blades. This young playmaker improved by 48 points from the 2018-19 season (9g,16a for 25 points in 68 games played) for the Blades. Talk about a great second full season for the Blades from this young man.

I think Tristen made a great move with not becoming a Goaltender. He is a speed demon, Robins is just fast as he has great acceleration and a quick first step. By the time a defenseman has time to react, Tristen more often than not has blown by them, or has dangled around them for a wicked wrist shot goal or snap shot goal. His shot is both accurate and powerful.

Another good quality to Robins game is he not afraid to go to the dirty areas to pot a goal. He has a natural ability to score in tight spaces, as Tristen goes to the front of the net with and without the puck to provide a net front presence. Moreover, Robins always finds the open man, and he has an arsenal of moves to dangle around Defensemen and Goaltenders alike. Simply put, he has a good hockey IQ as he told me he emulates his game from the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Brayden Point, “I emulate my game after Brayden Point,” Robins said.

This young playmaker in Robins has remained in shape throughout the pandemic, and he credits his mom and dad for that. They are very much into fitness, and keeping your body fit. Robins believes he has gained some weight, as he currently stands at 5’11, weighing 183 pounds, according to eliteprospects.

Robins wants to get better and he works hard in the offseason. He has loved every minute playing for the Blades, as he works on a bit of everything in the offseason (Skating in particular). Robins credits the coaching staff for giving him the tools, and belief he needs for a successful hockey career:

“The Blades are a classy organization. I cannot speak highly enough of what the coaching staff has done for me.”

Tristen Robins

He is a work-horse, and Robins is a player that would fit in well donning an orange and black sweater. Robins would win over Flyers fans for not taking a shift off, and creating plays that otherwise are not there to the fans eyes. Hopefully, Fletcher calls his name next week, as he is currently ranked #51 by eliteprospects
