Finally, there is some good news to report on Sam Morin, especially after he told me at training camp, “I just have to remain healthy, and work my butt off for a spot. This might be my last shot.” Fortunately, after the number 11th pick in the 2013 draft tore his ACL in his right knee for the second time, Morin is good to return for the 2020-21 season, per General Manager Chuck Fletcher. He has been skating and feeling good.
Morin’s season came to a halt on October 3, 2018 as a member of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, as he tore his ACL in his right knee. A prized 6’7,” first-round selection was down for the count. Somehow he returned in February, and managed to play in five games with the Flyers last season.
The 2013 first round selection in Morin found himself in a log jam at defense this season, to which he was only able to play in one game with the big club. Morin was mainly used as a seventh defenseman, until Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher sent him to the Phantoms on a conditioning stint. His season ended after playing in three games with the Phantoms.
Morin is in the second year of a three-year deal with the Flyers, and he can become a free agent after next season. The young man is always chipper, and giddy in the locker room. This was just ashame, and the road has been tough for this athlete to recover from a torn ACL in the same knee twice. Prayers for Morin.
