Well, your Philadelphia Flyers will not be 82-0 this season. They finally succumbed to a loss, but they played their butts off. Once again the Flyers found themselves down 2-0, but they did not panic and eventually erased the two goal deficit. It all started with a goal from an unlikely source, that being Nick Seeler, with an assist going to Zack MacEwen.

“Instead of naming names. It needs to be done by committee (Goal scoring),” John Tortorella said. “We need to get more scoring from other people.”

From there Felix Sandström took over. He was pelted again and again, while making some timely saves and saves off odd man rushes. Sandström finished the game with 31 saves on 35 shots faced, he really kept the Flyers in it to steal at least one point. This was a tough back-to-back, while playing two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

“Sandy gave us a chance. He played well.” – John Tortorella

Even though, the Flyers lost 4-3 the effort was there until the final horn sounded. Travis Konecny scored the third goal to pull the Flyers within one, stinking distance to possibly steal a point or victory. However, the Panthers prevailed obviously, but Konecny netted his fourth goal of the season in the loss. He just he just looks like a confident player, especially with the way he’s carrying the puck up the ice.

Notable differences from last season

Comraderie, yes comraderie. If a person has been watching each game you might be noticing more scrums after whistles, or even goals scored against the Flyers. The orange and black are sticking up for one another, and taking no baloney from their opponents.

Last night, Scott Laughton showed why he is wearing a letter on a sweater. He blocked shot after shot, especially in the second period and he was laboring as he came off the ice at the end of the period. While he was skating/hobbling off the ice five Flyers came over to make sure he was okay and patted him on the back. This was not evident last season in particular. It really shows that they care about one another, and the locker room is building some chemistry together.

John Tortorella is really building a team, one that is resilient. However, more importantly he’s building a team that cares about one another, and that’s the difference from last season to this season. Tortorella finally building a strong locker room, a team that cares about one another and not just themselves. Family was a strong word that was used during Training Camp, and it appears that the team gets it. Yes, it has only been four games, but the proof is in the pudding.
