The Flyers have carried three goalies for about half of the season thus far. A Goaltending carousel of Samuel Ersson, Ivan Fedotov, and Aleksei Kolosov have held down the first in net this season for the orange and black.
Unfortunately, the Goaltending carousel that consumed the Flyers at the moment has forced a young 22-year-old Defenseman in Emil Andrae back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. With the NHL roster freezes in full effect, the Flyers are not able to waive any player, with the intent of sending them back to Lehigh. This means that Ivan Fedotov is not able to be waived until the roster freeze ends on December 27th (28th at midnight), to try and solve the three goalie tandem.
The move of sending Andrae back to the Phantoms offers the orange and black roster flexibility at the moment. Although, this Goaltending carousel should have done to an end before the roster freeze was implemented. Fedotov could have been waived this past Monday or Tuesday, thus not forcing a young, good defenseman back to the minors for the time being.
Andrae struggled this past Thursday night against the Los Angeles Kings, as did Jamie Drysdale. The backend has really struggled fur the past few games as a matter of fact, but that doesn’t mean that Andrae should have been sent back. Andrae is going to have his ups and downs, and he was fighting through it. He should have been given an opportunity to rebound, not be sent back to the minors.
A young player on the backend should not have had to be the odd man out, due to the weird predicament the Flyers have found themselves in.
