Before we dive into this Flyers practice update, the Flyers will indeed play the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight at 7pm. It feels great typing that!!!!!, but the orange and black will be very short-handed. Claude Giroux and Ivan Provorov are headed back to Philly today, per Mike Yeo, however they are still in Covid Protocol. For that matter, the Flyers have six players in Covid Protocol, and all are inactive tonight against the Penguins: Ivan Provorov, Claude Giroux, Travis Sanheim, Travis Konecny, Jackson Cates, and Nick Seeler.
In their places Derick Brassard will return from injury, although he may not be 100%, per Mike Yeo, but he is a trooper and will play based off need. In addition, Egor Zamula will make his season debut tonight, and Connor Bunnaman will also be in the lineup. Here are the Flyers lines and pairings for tonight’s game:
Farabee-Laughton-Atkinson
Brassard-Frost-JvR
Bunnaman-Hayes-Willman
Lindblom-Brown-MacEwen
York-Braun
Zamula-Ristolainen
Yandle-Connauton
Carter Hart will get the nod in net tonight, as he was the first off the ice today at morning skate, per Jordan Hall. The Flyers have a daunting task in front of them tonight against a Pittsburgh Penguins team that has won nine straight games. The Penguins will be minus Jeff Carter, Mark Friedman, and Evgeni Malkin, but they have Sidney Crosby, who has accumulated the third most points in the NHL since November 26 with 20. The Flyers Covid/Injury list is listed below:
Covid List:
Claude Giroux
Travis Konecny
Travis Sanheim
Ivan Provorov
Jackson Cates
Nick Seeler
Injuries:
Sean Couturier
Ryan Ellis
Derick Brassard
Nate Thompson
What will happen tonight is anyone’s guess, but the Flyers have a challenge ahead of them tonight, “The bigger the challenge, the greater the opportunity,” Mike Yeo said following morning skate, the next man-up is real in Flyer-land folks.
