Eetu Mäkiniemi originally accepted a Professional Tryout Offer with the Flyers for training camp. You can never have enough goalies, and with the ongoing standoff with prospect Alexei Kolosov. It’s great to keep as many goalies on hand.
Today the Flyers signed goaltender Eetu Mäkiniemi to a one-year, two-way contract with a cap hit of $775,000 for the 2024-25 season. His minor-league salary is $200,000, all per @PuckPedia.
Mäkiniemi really played well in his lone pre-season tilt yesterday against the Montreal Canadiens. He only allowed one goal on 14 shots faced, which was good enough for a .929 Save Percentage. The Flyers need goalies, with the uncertainty surrounding Kolosov.
It appears he could head to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, as early as this weekend. The Phantoms training camp opens Saturday, so Thursday might be his last taste of pre-season action.
