Denver Barkey has indeed played a ton of hockey! With that being said, the Flyers have decided to not let Barkey hit the ice at this year’s Developmental Camp. It’s mainly due to recovering from his ankle injury, in the same token, he has played a lot of hockey. Barkey did say yesterday that he’s close to 100% from his injury. He also said he’s still recovering from bumps and bruises from the long season.
As a 20-year-old Forward for the London Knights in the OHL, he’s racked up an impressive resume. Since being drafted 16th overall by the Knights in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, he’s played multiple seasons, hitting career highs with 102 points (35 goals, 67 assists) in 64 games during the 2023-24 season. Including playoffs and the Memorial Cup, he’s logged 65 games in his final junior year alone, tallying 109 points despite a high ankle sprain. Over his OHL career, he’s been a key player, leading the Knights to two J. Ross Robertson Cups and a 2025 Memorial Cup championship, where he tied for the tournament points lead and earned the Ed Chynoweth Trophy, “It’s tough not being out there with the guys, skating,” Barkey said yesterday. “It’s tough for me and Bonkey (Oliver Bonk). We get yancey.”
Add in his youth hockey with the Newmarket MHA, Markham Majors, and Toronto Titans, plus appearances at events like the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, and it’s clear Barkey’s been on the ice a ton, “I’m ready for the next step, the next journey, with my new team,” Barkey said.

Whatever the case maybe, Barkey is ready for the professional level, to most likely play for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms next season. He’s determined, more than ever, to have a successful first season of pro hockey.
