The Flyers have recalled defenseman David Jiricek from their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, as of April 12, 2026.

Background on the Move

  • Recent performance with Lehigh Valley: Since being acquired from the Minnesota Wild at the 2026 NHL trade deadline (in exchange for forward Bobby Brink), Jiricek has been strong with the Phantoms. Reports indicate he’s posted around 13 points (2G, 11A) in 13 games, making him a point-per-game player and a key contributor on the blue line.
  • Context with the Flyers: The team is in a playoff push, so this recall adds depth on defense, and there are some banged up players on the backend.
  • His season so far: Jiricek, a 22-year-old Czech defenseman (drafted 6th overall by Columbus in 2022), had limited NHL time with the Wild before the trade (no points in ~25 games). He then spent time with the Phantoms and signed a two-year, $3M extension with Philadelphia on April 1, 2026, signaling the organization’s belief in his upside as a big, right-shot D with offensive potential.

This is a logical call-up for a rebuilding Flyers squad looking to evaluate young talent while fighting for the postseason. If the Flyers clinch soon, expect to see more of Jiricek as they prepare for the playoffs or evaluate for next season.
