Keith Jones, President of Hockey Operations and Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere attend a lot of CHL games. Last season, at least one of them were in attendance for almost every London Knight’s playoff game. It has become their niche to scout, and watch as many of their homegrown talents play throughout the CHL.
Yesterday, Danny Briere was fielded many questions by the media, with the likes of the trade deadline, how he perceives the season going thus far for the orange and black, and of course question came up about their own prospects.
Briere, unorthodoxly blasted Hockey Canada for the misuse of Jett Luchanko and Oliver Bonk, most notably. He started with Jett Luchanko:
“We were disappointed in the role they gave him, (Speaking of Jett Luchanko). He was probably the best skater in the World Junior Tournament, and he barely played,” said Briere. Now many Canadians will not disagree with Briere, as most eat, live, and breathe the sport of hockey.
Briere continues about Oliver Bonk, “He (Oliver Bonk) had a big role, but they put him in situations that are not really going to be his strength moving forward, which was really weird to us.”
Most Canadians will not disagree that the 2025 WJC Team Canada had a lot of flaws, especially after not medaling at this event. Team Canada is overly stocked with talent, usually, so it’s very rare that a Canadian team faces this type of scrutiny. Unfortunately, with having so much talent, the expectations of at least medaling are that much greater.
In the end, it’s hard to disagree with not only the misuse of Flyers prospects, but other prospects, as well, for this Canadian Junior Team.
