John Tortorella gets it, and he’s trying to build a connection with the fanbase of Philadelphia. The Flyers hired a former Stanley Cup winning Head Coach John Tortorella to a four year deal, worth $16 million. Some forget he won a Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning back in the 2003-04 season.
With his team trailing 4-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tortorella was thrown out of the game after yelling at Wes McCauley after a few questionable calls, and I’m saying questionable politely as they were bad calls.
Today Dan Hilferty spoke to Al Morganti, “I’m really proud of Torts for standing up for the team. This new era of Orange is about having each other’s backs. Last night, Torts had our collective backs. I respect any action the league might feel a need to take but if it includes a fine, I am paying it.”
What a statement from the Flyers Governor in Hilferty. Strong words, and you know what Tortorella was right to call out the rookie referee. Wes McCauley stick by the rookie’s side, but in my opinion it sends the wrong message to him.
