Cole Knuble, is the son the former Flyer Mike Knuble. For the 2022-23 season, he registered 30 goals, and 36 assists for a total of 66 points in 62 games played for the Fargo Force in the USHL. Knuble needed a good draft season, and he provided that for the competition ahead.
“Cole is USHL Player of the Year. He went through the draft last year. Really worked hard at getting stronger this year. Dramatically improved his skating,” said Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr. “Just a real sound two-way player. Really hard-working kid. He’s got some Flyers-sized as well.”
His game is very reminiscent of his dad’s, he knows where to go the score dirty goal, and he scores goals in tight. Knuble plays in all facets of the game, and again that’s very reminiscent of his dad. His Hockey IQ is strong for his age, as he went undrafted last year. During his presser yesterday on the first day of Flyers Developmental Camp, Knuble was candid as he said the Philly area is he where learned to play hockey, and skate. His dad Mike Knuble obviously played for the Flyers, and he made his living in front of the net, much like Cole.
“It meant a lot. It brought back a lot of memories. This is where I learned to play hockey, learned to skate,” Cole Knuble said after hearing his name get called by the Flyers. “I started skating with a skating coach back home in Grand Rapids and that helped a ton.” At age 18, Knuble stands at 5’11, and weighs 185 pounds. He is a good reliable penalty killer, that thrives with short-handed goals. Knuble, believe it or not is good as springing his teammates with breakout passes, and he usually places himself in the right positions for a nice easy wrist shot on net. All in all this would be a high valued pick for the Flyers late in the draft.
A great part and underrated part of Knuble’s game is he is quick to identify teammates in the offensive zone, and he moves to dangerous areas of the ice when he doesn’t have the puck. dangerous areas of the ice for his wrist shot. Knuble is able to help puck support, and board battle. He also has a dangerous shot, and gets to the greasy areas to score a goal.
He is able to identify the right play, even with pressure from his opponents. Knuble does not get rattled, and gets to areas of the ice where goals are scored (The front of the net). Knuble is one tough cookie, and takes a beating to the net. He transitions up the ice well, and is tough to move off the puck. Knuble was a catalyst for Fargo last season, as he needed a big year in a big way.
