Last night, Claude Giroux registered an assist on James van Riemsdyk’s first goal of the night, which happened to be a power play goal. This wasn’t just any assist, Giroux moved into sole possession of the second most points in Flyers history with 884.

Giroux is aging like a fine wine, as he continues to make more Flyers history in the same process. In addition, to moving into second place all-time in Flyers history in points. That assist just so happened to be his 600th career NHL assist. Giroux is aging like a fine wine, as he leads the Flyers in points this season with 26 (11g,15a).

“We feel like we’re doing a lot of good things but at the same time we know we can play better.” â€“ Claude Giroux said a few weeks ago

WJC Thoughts:

By now everyone knows that the IIHF has cancelled the 2022 WJC Tournament, which got underway on December 26th. They cited covid as the primary issue in terms of this cancellation. The health and safety of staff, the players, and everyone alike is important.

However, with a big tournament like this they should have operated under the assumption that there would be some positive covid tests. Exactly how many people had to be positive before the tournament shut down, is one question that remains unknown. So I ask why have this tournament in the first place, with a very contagious omicron variant lingering? The tournament should have been cancelled or postponed before it began.

The IIHF could have used a bubble, as many have seen before that Covid cases rise in the winter time. This tournament was not well orchestrated, and it’s a shame for all of these players, especially for those who went undrafted you are trying to make a name for themselves for this upcoming NHL Draft. Simply put, the IIHF let these kids down,
