Christian Dvorak signed a one-year, $5.4 million contract with the Flyers on July 1, 2025. The 29-year-old center, previously with the Montreal Canadiens, played all 82 games last season, recording 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 points.
All in all, he’s Happy to be reunited with Rick Tocchet, “He helped me out a lot in Arizona as a young guy. We had a really young team there, and he was really good with us,” Dvorak said in a Zoom interview. “I know he’s going to be great with the young guys here in Philly.”
Dvorak continues about Tocchet, “He’s big on communication, which is huge, He always has an open door policy, which is nice. He loves talking to everyone on the team and knowing what they are thinking. He was always a well structured coach, everyone knows where they need to be out there. Offensively, he gives you some freedom too. I think all of those factors help a lot and I think that’s why I had some successful years under him.”
Dvorak is known for his two-way play, winning 55.8% of his faceoffs and contributing on the Penalty Kill. Dvorak, who played under Flyers coach Rick Tocchet in Arizona, is expected to provide depth at center alongside Sean Couturier and Trevor Zegras. The signing has sparked mixed reactions, with some fans questioning the salary for a bottom-six role, while others see him as a valuable trade asset at the deadline.
“It was my first time being a free agent, so you don’t know what it’s gonna be like,” Dvorak said. “Definitely stressful at times, things happen fast, but ultimately picking Philly, I felt like they showed a lot of interest in me. They wanted me a lot, which was huge; it’s always nice to feel that. A lot of opportunity. I’m always trying to take my game to the next level, and I think I can do that in Philly.”
