The now former Mercyhurst College hockey player Carson Briere, the son of Flyers Interim General Manager Danny Briere, and Lacrosse player Patrick Carrozzi were charged with the wheelchair incident at a bar a few weeks ago.

They will receive the charges through the mail by summonses and were not arrested, according to Erie Police. However, the buck does not stop there for Briere as he was kicked off the Mercyhurst Hockey Team yesterday. Once again Briere has been dismissed from a hockey team. Some do not remember that he was kicked off the Arizona State hockey team for a violation of team rules in November of 2019.

Both Briere and Carrozzi are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 22nd:

“Upon the defendant exiting the wheelchair Patrick Carrozzi can be seen moving the wheelchair toward the edge of a staircase where he and the defendant then push the wheelchair down the staircase and walk away. These actions created a hazardous condition by blocking the staircase as a route of egress and posed a danger to any persons that may have been approaching the bottom of the staircase,” per GoErie.

They are second-degree misdemeanor charges. It carries a prison sentence of up to two years and a fine of up to $5,000, and a conviction for a summary offense carries a maximum prison sentence of 90 days and a $300 fine.

What the future holds for Carson Briere is anyone’s guess, but hopefully he gets his act together soon before it’s too late.
