Matvei Michkov has been the talk of the Summer for good reason in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Every move he makes he gets this town buzzing, for good reason. Flyers fans realize what a special player Michkov could be in the future, so he’s going to attract attention.
NHL.com reporter Adam Kimelman recently took a video of Michkov’s hand skills at the Rookie Showcase in Arlington, Virginia this past Wednesday. If you’re seeing this footage, I ask do you think Michkov can help the Flyers horrid Power Play this season?
The Flyers have been bottom feeders with the main advantage for the past few seasons. They were dead last in the league last season with a 12.2% success rate with the man advantage. That’s just not good enough to be a playoff caliper team, however, in the same token it’s quite evident they don’t have the offensive flare that is needed to have a successful Power Play.
Before Michkov’s arrival, Morgan Frost was the most gifted offensive player the Flyers had. He can create, but he needs help. Enter Michkov and his good pair of hands.
Michkov not only attracts players to him because of his skill, but he’s not afraid to get to the greasy areas to score goals. Maybe he can provide a net front presence that has been lacking with the man advantage for some time now with the orange and black.
In order for the Flyers to take the next step in the rebuild. They have to fix this abysmal Power Play, and adding a talent like Michkov can only help the franchise in this area. Is he the savior of the franchise? No, that’s not fair to him, but he provides offensive flare and skill that is needed to have a successful Power Play. Whether it be entering the zone to set up the main advantage, we’re providing a net from presence, having A talent like Michkov only helps.
By the way, it appears that Michkov it’s fitting right in, in America. He’s been spending a lot of time with Ivan Fedotov and Egor Zamula to help him get adapted to North America sooner. Of course, having your family here only helps with that, as well. Training camp opens in a few weeks, so life is about to get more interesting.
