Cam York is one of the most highly touted prospects in the Flyers system, for good reason. York can play both sides at a tough defensive position, Left and Right, which makes him more valuable and versatile.

When the Flyers organization decided to recall York last Friday for the road trip. One thing became clear, he will play and log minutes. York logged the second most minutes for Flyers defensemen this past Sunday against the Arizona Coyotes. For his efforts, he garnered a season high 24:08 of ice time. Again as aforementioned above, in organization will only recall this type of prospect for one reason and one reason only, to play.

York, 21, is being trusted buy Flyers new Head Coach John Tortorella, even so much so Tortorella sees his offensive skills enough to place him on the Power Play. This should make York confident with himself as he is seeing top Power Play minutes for that matter:

“He’s not afraid to make a play. He creates offense, and I just like his demeanor right now.” – John Tortorella on Cam York following the Coyotes game

The young 21-year-old blueliner has really become comfortable in the two games he has played since his recall. He brings offensive proweress and awareness to the defense, which was highly needed. Tony DeAngelo and Travis Sanheim were mainly the two defensemen that contributed to the offense before York was recalled, “If you want offense you have to be risky at times. No risk, no reward,” York said following the Coyotes game on Saturday.

To be quite frank, York has a brand new attitude and he should stay up with the big club for the rest of the season. There is absolutely nothing to lose right now with keeping York up with the Flyers for the rest of the season. In just two games he has proven he is NHL ready, and York may sell a few extra tickets. To steal York’s line, “No risk, no reward”. York should be here to stay.

Cutter Gauthier Update

Gauthier was named Hockey East Player of the Week. Just less than one week ago he was named rookie of the month. Gauthier is having a phenomenal NCAA season, and is currently at Team USA’s camp for the upcoming WJC Tournament that will commence is a few weeks. Cutter should have no problem making the team, barring injury of course.
