There is no mistake about it. Cam York is one of the Flyers top prospects, and he made quite the impression tonight. York has been playing extremely well for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and he seems to be extremely confident, as he scored a beautiful breakaway goal on the Power Play last night. York blew past his opponents (Wide Open), and Foerster made a crisp tape to tape stretch pass. York roofed the goal, so get used to hearing and seeing this on the PP in the future for the Flyers.
York is confident, skating well, and just so darn good with transitioning from defense to offense. One of the best qualities he possesses on the offensive side of the game is his shot accuracy. He hits the net nine times out of ten.
He had some expected rust from his first pro game, but he quickly found his niche as he has tallied one goal, and 5 assists in seven games played, “You ask any hockey player and it seems like once you get out of your routine it is a really tough situation,” York said following his first pro game. “As a hockey player, everything is about having a schedule and a certain routine. When you get thrown out of that for five weeks or whatever it was. It almost felt like I had a little offseason there. It’s just a weird situation to go from playing games at Michigan to having that break and then having to ramp it up again especially at the professional level.”
The young 20-year-old in York has provided some nice plays with the man advantage though, for instance, keeping the puck in at the blue line like Shayne Gostisbehere does so well. York has used his good instincts to keep a pucks to extend the Power Play, which has lead to prime scoring chances. With little practice time of knowing where the team’s personnel was going to be and when, he is actually doing quite well in this area. York quarter backed Michigan’s top Power Play Unit this past season, and that is definitely helping his comfortability.
York we’ll see time quarterbacking the power play as Flyers Head Coach Alain Vigneault stated after practice today. Jake Voracek says he’s excited to see your play tomorrow night. York will become the sixth Flyer to make his NHL debut this season joining the ranks of Wade Allison, Tanner Laczynski, Jackson Cates, Maksim Sushko, and Egor Zamula.
Flyers Head Coach Alain Vigneault and Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher have discussed the possibly of York joining the big club in the past. With Ghost being suspended, York has a great opportunity to impress the Flyers top brass in the final set of games here, while giving fans a glimpse of the future as #45…not #44.
Flyers Notes:
Flyers Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere believes the NHL got his suspension incorrect, “I completely disagree with it. I think they completely missed the mark,” Ghost said following practice today.
York will be paired with Samuel Morin tomorrow night.
Good that he is paired with Samuel!
Agreed. Thanks for the read
