The Flyers are underachieving, that’s an understatement. So much so Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher acknowledges such, “The blame starts with me.” Fletcher spoke to the media at 1pm today, and here are some bullet points from his meeting with the media.
- Fletcher says the Flyers need to make a move to get the “Right mix of players”on the defensive side of the puck.
- Chuck Fletcher said he spent the most time on the phone this season than any other season.
- Fletcher says maybe in the next week or two players like Allison, or maybe Laczynski or others might receive a call-up.
- Fletcher says Morgan Frost is doing really well, and hopes that he gets back on the ice in the coming weeks. He said there might be barely a chance he gets back to playing this season.
- He does believe Sam Morin will be back again. Says he is trying to get his timing back, and get back to the pace of play.
- Fletcher believes Oskar and Nolan are getting better. Mentions “Timing”
- He thinks the problems are fixable, but agrees they will have to do it quickly.
- “Certain players have handled stuff better than others, and some players are not at the level they need to be at.”– Chuck Fletcher
- “With young players there will be ups and downs. It’s a year we have to be careful, and over analyzing results.” It was a question of regression from young players.”– Chuck Fletcher
- Fletcher takes the blame, says it “Starts with me” it terms of accountability with coaches.
- “Carter is a young guy. He had some success last year. This year, he hasn’t played at the same level. There’s no question that he’s struggled, particularly this month.”– Chuck Fletcher
- Fletcher believes in Hart, and thinks he will pull out of this. He defended all of his young players today saying it is a weird season due to Covid-19. He cautions people to not over analyze the regression.
- “We are certainly not looking at selling right now. Been more aggressive. Not many teams looking to take on dollars or term.”– Chuck Fletcher
Unfortunately, due to the flat cap teams are not willing to take on term or dollars as teams head towards the trade deadline. Fletcher admitted he’s been active, but has had no takers as of yet. Let’s hope the Flyers are able to right the ship.
