The Flyers were itching to get back on the ice following their devastating loss earlier this week to the Bruins. The first period had lots of energy from both teams as they raced to get the first goal on the scoreboard. However, the first period ended scoreless in South Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on Friday night.

Four minutes into the opening stanza, the Bruins Brandon Carlo took a penalty as a result of holding Flyers Travis Konecny.

The Bruins had a lot of chances with shots on goal midway through the period.

Bruins Charlie McAvoy got a penalty for high-sticking with less than six minutes to go which resulted in a Flyers 4-on-3, but they failed to muster a goal.

In the first five minutes the of second period, both teams were eager to get things second going with shots on goal but neither team was able to score.

Midway through the second period the Flyers offense did a  great job passing the puck. Although, they got it going, there were no major results.

14:16 into the period, Flyers Joel Farabee went to the box for tripping Jakub Zboril. Seconds after the Bruins went full strength, Joel Farabee had a great chance to help the Flyers go 1-0 on the scoreboard, but he missed with great eye contact by Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask.

Flyers opened the third period with the power play that they were given with 1 second remaining in the second period and they got the job done as James van Riemsdyk scored. The goal was assisted by Claude Giroux and Erik Gustafsson, which was a tip in on Gustafsson’s shot to put the Flyers up 1-0.

With seven minutes left in the third, Bruins Brad Marchand scored while he was clustered in the goal area and found some room to get the puck in, assisted by David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy to tie the game at 1.

Seconds later Bruins Sean Kuraly scored, assisted by David Krejci and Anders Bjork to take the lead 2-1.

With less than three minutes left in the game, Bruins Craig Smith went to the box for two minutes for high-sticking Jakub Voracek. The Flyers had some tough looking chances to change the score of the game, but to no avail they came up empty handed.
