The Philadelphia Flyers came in to tonight’s game motivated to go 8-2-1 on the season, but the game didn’t start as they envisioned it. The Bruins got on the board twelve seconds in to the game as the Bruins David Pastrnak banked in a goal of the goalpost after making a move past Shayne Gostisbehere.
Old habits continued to haunt the Flyers, as the Bruins dominated the rest of the first period, but were unable to score. Fortunately, the Flyers were able to overcome many turnovers because Carter Hart kept making crucial saves.
The Bruins also outplayed the Flyers to start the second period, but failed to capitalize. The Flyers got the only power play opportunity in the second period when Anton Blidh got 2 minutes for holding Jakub Voracek. The Flyers did not score, but it appeared to shift the momentum in favor of the Flyers. The Flyers finally broke through with a goal to tie the game by Kevin Hayes assisted by Philippe Myers and Travis Sanheim. With 1:35 left in the period, James van Riemsdyk went to the penalty box for slashing Kevan Miller but the Bruins couldn’t find a a way to score.
1:03 into the 3rd period, Voracek scored into a wide open net to make the score 2-1. Sanhiem and Nolan Patrick got apples on Voracek’s goal. A few minutes later, Scott Laughton set up a beautiful chance for Joel Farabee who buried the puck into the net to extend the lead to 2, 3-1.
With less than nine minutes in the game, the Bruins got it going as they got a crucial goal by David Pastrňák, assisted by Patrice Bergeron and Nick Ritchie to make the score 3-2 Flyers.
The score held until Kevin Hayes hooked Brad Marchand and the Bruins went on a power play with two minutes left in the third period. The Bruins pulled their goalie to set up a 6-on-4 advantage. The Flyers did a good job of killing the penalty until Pastrňák jumped on a rebound and scored his third goal of the game and tied the score with 15 seconds left.
Scott Laughton was called for interference with eight seconds left in regulation. The game went into overtime and the Bruins started overtime with a 4-on-3 advantage. Boston immediately set up in a diamond and Patrice Bergeron was able to corral a rebound off Carter Hart and score the game winner. This goal capped a significant comeback by the Bruins.
