Foerster…he’s a hell of a talent,” – Phantoms Head Coach Ian Laperrière said at camp
“Did you see the goal he scored in the scrimmage there? Wow,” Laperrière said. “Not too many kids can score that goal. The puck was there, the other guy, I don’t remember, it was a defender, he had his stick there and just grabbed that puck and sniped it. He’s a goal scorer. And you know what I like about him!!! He loves to score goals. We all do, which I didn’t score many, but this kid just wants to score goals.”
At only 21-years-old, Tyson Foerster is starting to show maturity at such a young age on the ice. Tyson is a strong playmaker and has a shoot first mentality. Foerster was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers following the 2020 NHL Draft, as he was a first round selection, #23 overall.
After participating in Developmental Camp, and as he continues to progress through Rookie Camp. One thing has become clear. He is showing physical maturity, as a looks a bit leaner but stronger (Muscle wise), “This summer was a big summer for me,” Foerster said. “I lost some fat and I feel great coming in, I feel a lot faster than I was last year. I’m ready to go for camp.”

He is comfortable when he is in the face-off circle on the left side, and that was made evident all season long to which some even coined him as a sniper. So much so, he’s tied as the leading point producer for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms with 38 points (18g,20a), and second on the team in goals with 18.
Tyson feeds players extremely well and is always looking for where his target is. Foerster can bring qualities to the ice that the Flyers are lacking, but he needs his time with the Phantoms to not slow down his development. He took advantage of playing in the AHL with uncertainty surrounding the OHL two years ago. Tyson gained valuable professional experience, and tutelage from some veteran players like Cal O’Reilly and Garrett Wilson, whom he speaks of very highly of for helping him as he has stated to us at developmental camp a few weeks ago, but he is uncertain on where he will play, “Nothing has been made clear yet but hopefully I can stay with the Flyers,” Foerster said. “But if not, hopefully Lehigh Valley. Nothing has been made clear to me yet.”
The Barrie Colts product in Foerster shoots right and mans the left side of power plays, and can easily understand what play is going to happen in the offensive zone. He is a double threat when it comes to odd man rushes, and he can move and pass the puck efficiently and score goals during these situations. Moreover, he has tallied two shootout goals for the Phantoms, and just has a knack for the net, “I’m just going to try and prove myself at camp,” Foerster says.
He has many good qualities to his style of play that covers many of the area the Flyers are currently in lack of and he is 100%, “I think I’m in great health right now. My shoulder is a lot better,” Foerster said at developmental camp. For this young man the sky is the limit this season. How will he perform or where he will perform is anyone’s guest right now, he is just focused on making flyers at the moment.
The sky is the limit for this young man, and he will make his NHL Debut tonight donning the number 52. Elliot Desnoyers was also recalled, so there might be an injury, as both players were recalled under emergency conditions. The Flyers will still have their four recalls left, with Tony DeAngelo being suspended for two games. Let’s see what happens.
