Hockey Canada has invited Flyers players Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim to its National Teams Orientation Camp in Calgary from August 26-28, 2025, as part of preparations for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.

The camp includes 42 NHL players, with Konecny among 26 forwards and Sanheim among 13 defensemen. Both participated in the 4 Nations Face-Off earlier in 2025, where Canada won gold.

They will face stiff competition for the final 25-man Olympic roster, as all 24 players from the 4 Nations team were invited back. Konecny, coming off a career-best 76-point season, and Sanheim, a reliable two-way defenseman, will need strong performances in the 2025-26 NHL season to secure spots, given the depth of talent, including stars like Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and Cale Makar.

Konecny’s edge lies in his versatility and offensive output, but he’ll need to maintain or exceed his 2024-25 performance in the 2025-26 NHL season to stand out. Sanheim’s chances hinge on his defensive consistency and ability to complement Canada’s offensive-minded blueliners. If both have strong starts to the 2025-26 season, their odds improve significantly, but nothing is guaranteed given Canada’s depth.

It’s a positive sign that both Konecny and Sanheim were invited to Hockey Canada’s National Teams Orientation Camp for the 2026 Winter Olympics, as it shows they’re in the conversation for the final 25-man roster.
