ATL at REA | Weekend Preview for 3/17 – 3/19

The Reading Royals prepare for a big weekend of 3 straight against the Atlanta Gladiators. The Royals currently sit in 6th place in the east with 70 points just 2 points ahead of the Gladiators who have 68 and sit in 7th. 

The Royals are rolling back home after earning 5 out of 6 possible points last weekend over the eastern conference-leading Growlers. Pat Nagle picked up both wins the Royals had over the weekend. Evan Barrat picked up another hat trick Saturday, scoring the 3rd goal in the overtime session to pick up the Royals’ 5-4 win.

Both Reading and Atlanta have 2 top 20 scorers in the ECHL, for Atlanta Cody Sylvester sits in 5th place with 69 points (29 G, 40 A). Charlie Gerard for Reading is in 11th place with 60 points (28 G, 32 A). Max Newton despite being up for a little while with Belleville sits at 19th with 56 points (25 G, 31 A) as a rookie. Max is also 4th among rookies in scoring this season. Mike Pelech the former Reading Royal from 2015-2017, sits at the number 20 spot with 56 points (11 G, 45 A). 

The Royals currently have 4 goaltenders on the roster so let’s see their stats, shall we? We’ll start off with the new guy Bailey Brkin. With Wheeling and Iowa this season Brkin is 5 -7 – 2 with a 3.08 GAA and .908 SV%. Kaden Fulcher is out indefinitely with a wrist injury and has a record of 4 – 5 – 0 with 3.03 GAA and .897 SV %. Ryan Kenny was signed recently and has a record of 0 – 1 – 1 with a 5.06 GAA and .811 SV%. Pat Nagle who has the most experience with the Royals this season has a record of 13 – 5 – 0 with a 2.54 GAA and .908 SV5 along with a shutout. 

Atlanta has 3 goaltenders let’s look at their stats, shall we? Alex Sakellaropoulos in 3 games this season is 0 – 3 – 0 with a 7.42 GAA and .827 SV%. Joe Murdaca in 8 games is 5 – 3 – 0 with a 2.61 GAA and .914 SV%. Tyler Harmon is 3 – 0 – 0 in 3 games this season with a 2.67 GAA and .919 SV%. 

The Royals picked up Ryan Cook from Kalamazoo via trade. Brett Boeing was traded to Kalamazoo for Ryan Cook. Cook has 12 points (3 G, 9 A) in 47 games this season with the Wings.

Charlie Gerard scored his 50th goal in his ECHL career last Friday, March 10th.

Reading has a record of 13 – 7 – 1 against the Gladiators in the franchise’s history.
