Travis Sanheim, drafted 17th overall in 2014 has officially been named Alternate Captain of the Flyers for the 2025-26 season.
Sanheim is widely regarded as a key emerging leader and a strong candidate for the role, following the trade of former Alternate Captain Scott Laughton to the Toronto Maple Leafs in March 2025.

Reason for Sanheim to get the “A”
- Longevity and Growth: At 29, Sanheim has evolved from a trade rumor subject to the team’s top defenseman, logging heavy minutes and signing an 8-year, $50 million extension in 2022. He’s represented Canada internationally (e.g., 4 Nations Face-Off) and is seen as a steady, battle-tested voice in a young locker room featuring talents like Matvei Michkov and Cam York.
