Today news broke that Flyers defensive Right-Handed prospect Jack St. Ivany will leave Yale University to transfer to Boston College through the NCAA transfer portal. He will be eligible to play for the Eagles at the conclusion of the first semester.

The Flyers drafted the California native in the fourth-round, #112 overall, during the 2018 NHL Draft. During his draft year, he played for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL and posted six goals and 30 assists for 36 points in 30 games played. He was also named to the USHL Third All-Star Team that year.

The reason behind St. Ivany’s transfer is not about his game or lack of ice time, but due to the reason behind Ivy League sports cancellations. In fact, Yale will be losing a top-pairing defenseman in St. Ivany. During his playing time with Yale University, he has scored a total of seven goals and 23 assists for 30 points in 62 games. The transfer to Boston will be official after the first college semester is over.

This transfer to Boston College could be very good for St. Ivany’s development. The Eagles roster has some strong talent in all positions. St. Ivany may be paired with top prospects like Tampa Bay Lightning’s Eamon Powell or Minnesota Wild’s Marshall Warren.

The Flyers are loaded on the back-end with prospects. St. Ivany could very well round-out to be a solid bottom-pair defenseman for the Flyers one day. He is a junior this season so expect him to spend another year before going professional.

  1. Yes we are loaded with defensive prospects, but only on the left side, so instead we lack defensive depth in right shot defenders like St Ivany! I have or have to have optimism behind our two overage drafted RHD”s in St Ivany and Ronnie Attard, who has been late blooming prospects, because they are both pretty big sized defensemen with potential! So i hope they become good enough players, who can cover right side in our defense with physicality and thus balance our future defense, while we have more skilled and attacking defense prospects coming in York, Zamula and Andrae, who lack size and physicality! Like Tampa had in last season and won! So i hope our balancing act goes well in future, but i must say that it would easier to cope, if we traded for some top young RHD in near future, from teams who have depth in their pools, and thus can afford to trade, looking at Rangers and Colorado especially! If example Colorado”s Justin Barron start to torch his league in draft+1 season, we should try real hard to trade for him, and give for example Scott Laughton in return for Colorado”s cup run! Who knows we can win that trade even by a large margin, just like Yzerman did in case of Sergatchev vs Druin trade! Laughton”s contract is up after this season, and if traded will not have to be protected from Seattle, and maybe we can sign him again after expansion draft! I am just saying it would be wise Chuck!

  2. Please comment response to my comment, and tell me what you think! Looking at you Gregg Lorentz! I just tend to look at our team from GM”s point of view! Rangers also have Nils Lundkvist coming strong in Sweden, just saying Chuck!
