Alexei Kolosov started again for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms last night. Many paid attention to him in particular, as Flyers backup netminder Ivan Fedotov has struggled mightily in his two starts with the big club. Fedotov allowed five goals this past Thursday night.

Kolosov struggled in the first period against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins. He allowed four first period goals, and Kolosov even passed the puck to a penguin for an easy empty net goal. It appeared it was going to be a long night for Kolosov, as the Penguins scored four times on eight shots faced.

There was some good, however. Kolosov came out for the second period, and he played well. In addition, Kolosov came out for the third period, and he played well too. Kolosov played like the goaltender some have come to know him.

For his efforts, Kolosov made 25 saves in the second and third periods, on 25 shots faced. He didn’t allow another goal, unfortunately the Phantoms wound up losing the game 4-3.

It’s good to see Kolosov overcome some adversity, and put forth a solid game in the same process. For Kolosov, it won’t be all roses, so it’s good to see him battle when he wasn’t at his best.

The Flyers have until the end of the month to decide what they will do with Kolosov for the rest of the year, as Kolosov could return back to the KHL. With the way Kolosov is playing, maybe backing up number one netminder in Philadelphia–Samuel Ersson is a possibility in the near future.
