Alexander Ovechkin has done it, he’s done it. He’s officially the NHL’s goal scoring King, as he has eclipsed Wayne Gretzky’s old record of 894 goals.

Ironically enough this was Ovechkin’s first goal scored against Ilya Sorokin. He was the only Goaltender he’s faced that he hasn’t scored a goal against.

This is very impressive, considering Ovechkin has lost two seasons due to lockouts, had a season lost to Covid, and he also missed over a month of hockey this season with a broken leg. That’s a total of 262 games, so to even sniff the record, this season especially, is unreal.

“What a a moment for the hockey world, for my family.” – Alexander Ovechkin

Ovechkin didn’t want to break the goal record by scoring on an open net last game, “l told Carbs right away I didn’t want to do it. Let’s wait. Leno scored his first NHL goal, he’s got such a bright future.”

Wayne Gretzky was obviously in attendance for this game and spoke very highly of Alex last game, “We always talked about our game the players who were in it from Gordie Howe, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr, Messier, on and on. We always wondered what it would be like when they retired then along came Sidney Crosby and Ajed Ovechkin. He’s been so great for the City of Washington. He’s been so great for hockey. “

Thus record is great for the sport, for the fans, and of course Ovechkin and his family.
