Alex Bump, yes Alex Bump. Flyers fans get used to hearing his name, Bump has been on a heater since joining the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, with tallying three goals and two assists in just three games played with the Phantoms, including playoffs.
The Flyers couldn’t have scripted a better result to his professional career any better.

Bump scored two big goals in his first professional playoff game for the Phantoms yesterday, including a Power Play goal. Jett Luchanko set him up nicely with a drag and curl pass, and Bump made no mistake by potting his first goal of the playoffs. That’s the type of creativity Flyers fans can expect from Bump and Luchanko.
Alex Bump is crazy man
He has score ✌️goals tonight, as he now has 3g,2a in 3 games played
After being awarded the player of the year by the Minnesota Associated Press in 2022, Bump made quite the impression in the USHL with the Omaha Lancers with netting 11 goals and registering six assists in 27 games played in 2021-22.
“He came on the scene this year. He’s one, if not probably the top player in Minnesota high school this year. He started in the USHL and came back. He had a big, big year in high school and finished strong when he went back to the USHL. We’re all excited about him. Obviously, he’s going back to play another year of junior and then off to Vermont. I think he’ll have a big role right away.” – Assistant General Manager, Brent Flahrsaid of Bump after the draft
Bump plays for Western Michigan University where Wade Allison, Keith Jones, and Ronnie Attard used to play. He was granted this late change given that Head Coach Todd Woodcroft was dismissed as the coach of Vermont Hockey last Summer, “Ronnie Attard reached out when I was down to my final three. Ronnie knew Western was part of it,” Bump told me this last February.
One thing that can be noted is that The Flyers top brass appears to be high on Bump, “Guy like (Alex) Bump for me. Every year he’s been here, you see it’s a dramatic improvement. He looks like an NHL player for me going forward,” Brent Flahr said of Bump at the conclusion of Developmental Camp. This obviously has to make him feel more confident, as he personally started off slow, but has made one heck of an impression since, playing with much tougher competition in the NCAA. He stands at 6’0 and weighs 194 pounds, and Bump plays with a physical edge to his game. Bump continued his solid play for the Broncos this past season while amassing 23 goals and 24 assists in 42 games played. He averaged nearly a point per game.
Speaking of Jett Luchanko and Nikita Grebenkin
Jett Luchanko infuses the Phantoms line up with speed, and that gave the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins fits. They just had trouble controlling his line all night. Luchanko finished his first professional playoff game with two assists, as he assisted on both of Bump’s goals.
Luchanko really has played well with his tenure with the Phantoms thus far. It appears he’s getting more comfortable at the professional level, which often takes some highly talented prospects sometime to get use to.

Nikita Grebenkin offers the Flyers hope in the future, especially on the Power Play. He registered his first point during the playoffs with the Phantoms, an assist.
Grebenkin it’s turned out to be a steal out of the Scott Laughton deal, at least from a Flyers perspective. It’s still quite amusing to me that a prospect of his caliber was even available for a trade.
All in all, both Flyers and Phantoms should be happy with the 5-2 playoff victory by the Phantoms.
