Aleksei Kolosov has proven that he needed more seasoning and more time to hone in on his development as a Goaltender. Mind you, he is just 22-years of age, so there is no reason to write him off just yet. These type of struggles are typical for young netminder’s, especially those that are trying to adapt to North America.
The Flyers sent Kolosov back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms last week, a Flyers affiliate. Danny Briere said at his mid-season presser, as far as he knew, Aleksei Kolosov was willing to go to the AHL. There was maybe some doubt that, that would actually transpire.
Kolosov in the end did report to the Phantoms, and hopefully he continues to find his way in North America.
Unfortunately, Kolosov’s return to Lehigh hasn’t gone as planned. He has been blasted with 66 shots on me and has allowed ten goals, five in each in two games played. Both games were losses to Springfield and the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
Grant it, the team defense was a letdown on Friday night, in particular against Springfield, however, Kolosov didn’t make that save either.
I was told before he was recalled to the Flyers, which lasted a lot longer than expected. That he enjoyed his time in Lehigh in the early parts of the season, so let’s hope he rebounds. Kolosov is it very talented Goaltender. His athleticism alone is something I haven’t seen since Sergei Bobrovsky. Hopefully, he figures it out, sooner rather than later.
