Aleksei Kolosov, the Philadelphia Flyers’ 23-year-old goaltender prospect (drafted 78th overall in 2021), has indeed shown positive signs in his first two appearances of the 2025 NHL preseason.

After a challenging 2024-25 season where he split time between the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms and a brief NHL stint (posting a .881 SV% in four games), Kolosov has looked more composed and athletic early in camp under new head coach Rick Tocchet. He’s been backed up by Samuel Ersson in these games, but his starts and relief work have highlighted his quick lateral movement, recovery saves, and ability to handle chaos in the crease—traits that Flyers brass have long praised.
Overall Through Two Games: ~.882 SV% (limited sample), but he has made some qualitative improvements. He’s bailing out the young defense with split saves and post-to-post tracking—echoing his flashy Phantoms play last year (e.g., 22/25 in a 2024 AHL win).

No major gaffes, and he’s positioning himself as a potential NHL backup contender over Carson Bjarnarson, especially with Sam Ersson as the likely starter. If he keeps this up, expect more starting opportunities in the remaining games (vs. Boston on Sept. 27/29, NY Islanders on Oct. 2, NJ Devils on Oct. 4). The Flyers open the regular season October 9 vs. Vancouver.
