Adam Ginning, the Flyers’ Swedish defenseman, was recently recalled from the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms on January 9, 2026, to fill in due to injuries on the blue line (notably Jamie Drysdale being placed on injured reserve with an upper-body issue, plus day-to-day statuses for forwards like Travis Konecny and Bobby Brink.

This recall gives the 25-year-old (born January 13, 2000) another opportunity to establish himself in the NHL. Ginning, a second-round pick (50th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, is known as a big (6’3, ~196 lbs), physical, stay-at-home defensive defenseman who excels along the boards and in front of the net. He’s appeared in 5 games with the Flyers this season (scoreless, with some hits and blocks) and has 15 career NHL games under his belt overall. The phrase “recalled looking to make an imprint” aligns closely with his current situation — this call-up represents a key chance for him to leave a lasting mark and potentially secure a more permanent role.

Ginning’s been described in hockey circles as a “forgotten prospect” on some what of a last-chance push to prove he can stick in the NHL long-term, especially after limited opportunities earlier and a brief conditioning stint/waiver placement in late 2025 (which he cleared, staying with the Phantoms).
With the Flyers dealing with defensive injuries, Ginning is stepping in to provide stability and physicality on the back end. Fans will be watching to see if he can capitalize and “make an imprint” during this stint!
