The Flyers annihilated their arch rivals in the Pittsburgh Penguins last night 6-1, and that’s putting it nicely. There were some good things that came out from last night’s victory, most notably another great game by rookie sensation, Matvei Michkov.

Michkov officially hit the 40-point mark on his rookie campaign. For his efforts, he became the fourth Flyer in the last 20 years to register 40 or more points into rookie campaign, joining the likes of Jeff Carter, Matt Read, and Shayne Gostisbehere.

He looks Re-Energized, and very speedy following the Four Nations break, “After the break there’s more energy, more power in the body, so feel a lot better. When the team wins it not only helps me, but the team, as well,* Michkov said via translator, following the game yesterday.

“It would be strange if I don’t want to make the playoffs (Laughing),” Michkov said via translator. “Every player dreams they make the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup. Our team is trying for it, and hopefully we will make it. Otherwise there is no point to train, if we don’t want to win.”

Michkov has really played well. He’s very engaged, and it appears that Michkov just wants to get better. Michkov has 17 goals and has registered 24 assists on the season, which he only trails Lane Hutson by two points for the rookie lead.

“I want to score more, but because partners are in a better position. I will feed them with passes,” Michkov said. “Most important for me is the team win, but of course I want to score every game.”
