The Flyers offseason is far from over, and Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher has at least one more move left in the tank:

“I think we’re still actively talking to teams and agents to see what may be out there. We do have a little bit of cap space left. We’re focusing on trying to re-sign Phil Myers and Nolan Patrick. We can certainly start the year the way we are now, but if there’s a way to improve our team, we’ll continue to look at ways.- Chuck Fletcher said on Friday October 16, 2020

Everyone throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond are wondering what’s the next Flyers move? Well, hopefully it’s for a player that can provide some physicality because that is one missing element this team needs the most.

Nicolas Aubé-Kubel cannot provide the muscle this team needs by himself, and that was made evident in the 2020 NHL Playoffs. Everyone saw some Flyers players get pushed off the puck, not to mention beaten and battered along the boards against the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders.

The Flyers were not only ousted of the 2020 Playoffs because of the Power Play. In most cases they could not Forecheck effectively against both the Canadiens and the Islanders. As the playoffs wear on, ice becomes tougher and tighter. You need some players that are physical, not just skilled players. Look at the Stanley Cup Finalists in 2020: The Dallas Stars and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Both teams were physical, and they were the last one’s standing.

There is one person who can provide some physicality and one that gets underneath the skin of his opponents easily who is still available in free agency…Corey Perry. Not the most well like player by most fans, but a good physical player if a team is need of such. Take for instance the 2020 playoffs against the Colorado Avalanche in a crucial Game 4. Perry slashed Colorado Avalanche’s Goalie Pavel Francouz, and that lead to Samuel Girard of Colorado to take a retaliatory penalty. Dallas really rallied behind Perry following this incident, and cashed in on the ensuing Power Play. These are the type of plays/players the Flyers lacked in the playoffs. This is one missing element to this team.

Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton can only do so much in terms of getting under the skins of the opponent. Furthermore, the last thing I would like to see is either of these skilled players in the box for five minutes for fighting. Enter Corey Perry, a player that will throw down the mitts, bang players against the boards, and pot some big key goals (Like the World witnessed in the Playoffs).

Perry stands at 6’3 and weighs 206 pounds. He made $1.5 million this past season, and the longer Perry stays unsigned in this market the cheaper he becomes. Maybe Chuck Fletcher could sign him for $900,000-$1 million. I saw the Flyers get pushed around at times last season. The addition of Perry would prevent that from happening even more.

  1. Send giroux to Ottawa or Montreal for draft picks ghost Patrick first round pick to jets for Laine add jvr if need be

  2. Vorachek to Columbus for first rounder let the young guys play not going to win a cup next year anyway

  3. Why oh why are you people so down on the veterans on this team? The flyers will only regress if you get rid of said players above. Nolan may not even be cleared to start the season and what if he gets hurt again? They still need these guys to mentor the young guys and get them more experience. Does anyone think tk can match last year’s totals just look at the playoffs he totally disappeared no matter who he played with. Even if the third line is Nolan giroux and Jake I’ll put that line up against any third line in the league. Just my thoughts and opinions don’t have to agree with them but all these trades mentioned are unrealistic. If you want to trade Jake to Columbus for a1st round pick he must not be that bad for our lineup.

  4. The trade mentioned above will never happen with the jets with what you want offered. Next year if he’s still available or even at the trade deadline until Patrick proves he is healthy no team will take him damaged goods i think ppl call it. Now maybe if you throw in sanhiem and frost the deal gets done but then you lose a top 4 defender for a possible one year rental in return.

  5. Yeah it’s time to put your xbox days behind you! This is the real world and trading everyone willy nilly dosen’t work! Other general managers want young players with low cap hits as well. Besides no team has ever won a cup without older former stars on there roster!
