There is no doubting that Flyers’ Prospect Denver Barkey is good at the sport of hockey. He was honored to be selected by Team Canada for a preliminary camp for the upcoming WJC Tournament. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Unfortunately, Barkey lost one of his idols yesterday in his grandpa Randy Legge, a former New York Ranger. Legge passed away, but Barkey was determined to make Team Canada, and bring a sense of closure to his family.

Team Canada and Barkey played in a preliminary game today against USsports. Barkey registered an assist on the first period of play, and then he netted a goal in the second period. That wasn’t just any goal either, that goal was for his late grandpa, Randy. Barkey’s grandpa, I’m certain, would have wanted him to be happy, and play in today’s contest. Hockey makes the Barkey’s happy, and they have strong roots in the sport.

Barkey will continue to razzle and dazzle for Team Canada, much like he does for the London Knights. This game meant a lot, not only to Denver, but his family and extended family. One can only imagine Denver’s emotions throughout the course of the game, but on one night he was able to have his family smile during the time of the grieving process. It’s never easy to get over the loss of a loved one, but Barkey had to participate in this game, with the hopes of securing a spot on Team Canada for the upcoming WJC Tournament.
