Bernie Parent, a legend, and one of the most polarizing figures in Flyers history has passed.

  • The Flyers organization confirmed the news in a joint statement with the Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education foundation, describing him as “a true legend, one of the most famous and beloved players, and most popular figures in the history of the organization and city of Philadelphia.” No cause of death was immediately disclosed, though a teammate noted he died peacefully in his sleep.
  • Family: He is survived by his wife, Gini Gramaglia (married in 2016), and three children.

Career Highlights

Parent was a cornerstone of the Flyers’ “Broad Street Bullies” era, backstopping the team to consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 1974 and 1975—the franchise’s only titles to date. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP both years and earned two Vezina Trophies as the NHL’s top goaltender.

Prayers and thoughts to the Parent family and friends, Flyers organization, and community. This is a sad day for Flyers fans throughout the World.

I am really fortunate to know and have met such a kind man, that would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat.
