Alexei Kolosov got off to another great start for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms last night. He made nine saves out of 10 shots faced early in the second period at one point. It’s clear the Flyers organization wants him to start, start, start these days.

The organization is trying to see what they have in him, and prove to him that he is indeed the number one netminder in Allentown. Kolosov and the Phantoms, unfortunately, fell to Hartford 4-3 in overtime.

Kolosov played well at times, as did the players in front of him. Kolosov made a dandy save right off the bat to start the game, and that I guess made him a confident netminder.

The 22-year-old goaltender in Kolosov was tested with one breakaway and a handful of 2-on-1’s, to which Kolosov made the saves. He appears to confident and calm. Kolosov doesn’t look scattered brained and shaky, rather he stands tall and moves laterally from post to post well.

For Kolosov, it won’t be all roses, so it’s good to see him battle. He is now 1-2-1 on the season, and the two losses were not due to his play. Kolosov has played like an average netminder for the most part, but it’s great to see him adapting well to North America.

The Flyers have until the end of the month to decide what they will do with Kolosov for the rest of the year, as Kolosov could return back to the KHL. With the way Kolosov is playing, maybe backing up number one netminder in Philadelphia–Samuel Ersson is a possibility in the near future.
