Travis Konecny, what more can anyone say about Travis Konecny. He’s was a ball of energy, showing and giving the Flyers life. Konecny was stellar all season long, for the most part, and he really matured into a very good leader and player for the orange and black. Even so-much-so, Konecny finished the season with 33 goals, and 35 assists for 68 points.
With the Flyers starting out to a 15-10-2 record to begin the season, a player that really shined was Travis Konecny. Looking forward, there was never a doubt that Travis was back to his old ways, and becoming a leader inside the Flyers locker room. Konecny had that feistiness from a few years ago, but even more impressive was his scoring abilities. He had 16 goals through the first 26 games of the season, and Konecny at one point was tied for sixth in the league in that particular category, “All the young guys are a year older from last year. We’re trying to make a good culture that everyone falls into, continues to work and believes in each other,” Konecny said following the victory against the Arizona Coyotes.
Even with all his success, Konecny always credited someone else, “He’s helped my game a lot. He’s one of the best defensive guys in the game,” Konecny said of Sean Couturier. Konecny said Couturier has helped him become a more mature player.
As much as people downed Konecny in 2021-22, I believe that he used that negativity to better himself and that really helped out the team. John Tortorella spoke very highly of him:
“He’s just a really good player. He knows he’s a good player. When his mind is straight, and he doesn’t get caught up in the antics of it all, and just plays, his engine is so good. It’s fun to watch him play.” – John Tortorella said following a Colorado game

It’s the effort on a nightly basis that had this team believing in one another, not to mention it was ‘Us against the World’ mentality. Konecny wants to stay in Philly, and talks about a contract extension will transpire in the near future. I surmise by July 1st. Flyers fans…he’s going nowhere, especially after Konecny says, “I love Philly,” when asked about future contract extension talks at exit interviews.
Today, Konecny signed an 8-year contract extension, worth $70 million (8.75 million AAV), re-signing Konecny was a massive priority this offseason. Six of those years he will have a full NMC (No-Movement-Clause), while two of those two years he will have a limited no trade clause.
“I couldn’t be happier to sign again with the Flyers,” said Konecny. “There’s such a bright and exciting future with this team and I can’t wait to be a part of it for the next nine years and see what we will accomplish. I can’t thank all my teammates and staff members enough because this opportunity wouldn’t be possible without each and every one of them along the way. I can’t wait to get back to Philly in front of the best fans in the world and I look forward to another great season.”
