The expansion teams should be made to be respectable yes, but not Stanley cup contenders. There are 31 teams giving up one extremely good player. Vagas and now Seattle will be given the chance to complete for the cup in there very first year. Teams at the bottom can’t afford to give up one player. Only being allowed to protect 11 players on a team like Buffalo and the other bad, I mean lower teams is outrageous. Vegas is second in the league already. Make them respectable, not Stanley cup contenders. Top 15 teams can protect 11 but 16 and lower should be allowed to protect 16 players. In the old days you were lucky to get a teams 4th or 5th best player on their minor league team. They get the 12th best player on every team and teams at the bottom need that player. Stop giving expansion teams instant riches and let them earn their place in the NHL like every other team has to.
