<p class="has-large-font-size">Yes, you heard it right the Flyers are going back to the playoffs since the pandemic in 2020.</p>

<p>The Flyers clinched a playoff berth last night (April 13, 2026) with a dramatic 3-2 shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes. It&#8217;s their first postseason appearance since 2020—huge for the fanbase after a long drought.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" data-attachment-id="33729" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/podcast-alert-is-oliver-ekman-larsson-the-best-option-for-the-flyers/image-1-4/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1024,576" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-1" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=640%2C360&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=632.4%2C356&amp;ssl=1" alt="Photo Credit: Our very own Rob Windfelder " class="wp-image-33729" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=310%2C174&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=60%2C34&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>What&#8217;s next for the Flyers?</strong></p>

<p>They finished third in the Metropolitan Division (42-27-12, 96 points) and will face their in-state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins (who took 2nd in the Metro and have home-ice advantage), in the Eastern Conference First Round. This sets up a classic Battle of Pennsylvania (Flyers vs. Penguins)—their eighth playoff meeting historically, with Philly winning four of the previous seven series.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Series format: </strong>Best-of-7.</li>

<li><strong>Home-ice:</strong> Penguins get Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 (if necessary).</li>

<li><strong>Start date:</strong> NHL playoffs are scheduled to begin Saturday, April 18, 2026. Exact game times and schedule for this series should drop soon (likely Game 1 in Pittsburgh over the weekend).</li>
</ul>

<p>The Flyers have one more regular-season game tonight (April 14 vs. Montreal Canadiens), but it won&#8217;t change their seeding or matchup since they&#8217;ve already locked in third, so they made a slew of recalls today from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms:</p>

<p>#59 Oliver Bonk </p>

<p>#78 Jacob Gaucher </p>

<p>#35 Aleksei Kolosov</p>

<p>#75 Hunter McDonald </p>

<p>#90 Anthony Richard</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">It&#8217;s quite possible that both Hunter McDonald and Oliver Bonk will make their NHL Debuts tonight for the orange and black.</p>

<p>The East is shaping up with strong teams like the Carolina Hurricanes (likely top seed) and others in the Atlantic (Buffalo, etc.), but the Flyers&#8217; path starts with this intense rivalry series. Anything can happen in the playoffs—rivalries like this often deliver chaos, big hits, and memorable moments.</p>

<p>Playoff hockey is officially back in the conversation in Philadelphia, and it feels electric right now. As of April 6, 2026, the Flyers (39-26-12, 90 points) have climbed into the third spot in the Metropolitan Division after a gritty 2-1 overtime win over the Boston Bruins on Easter Sunday. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" data-attachment-id="33729" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/podcast-alert-is-oliver-ekman-larsson-the-best-option-for-the-flyers/image-1-4/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1024,576" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-1" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=640%2C360&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=632.4%2C356&amp;ssl=1" alt="Photo Credit: Our very own Rob Windfelder " class="wp-image-33729" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=310%2C174&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=60%2C34&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p>Rookie Porter Martone scored his first NHL goal on the power play in overtime to seal it, and Dan Vladar stood tall with strong Goaltending. That victory, combined with a solid 4-1 road win over the New York Islanders a couple days earlier, has Philly back in a playoff position for the first time since mid-January.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<div class="twitter-tweet"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I&#39;ve watched Porter Martone&#39;s Overtime winner over and over <br><br>What a victory! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Flyers?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Flyers</a> <a href="https://t.co/mwA54rLy0L">pic.twitter.com/mwA54rLy0L</a></p>&mdash; Jamey Baskow (@JameyBaskow) <a href="https://twitter.com/JameyBaskow/status/2041080420142297501?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 6, 2026</a></blockquote></div>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Quick Look at the Current Picture:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>They&#8217;re one point ahead of the New York Islanders (who have one fewer game in hand in some scenarios) for the final Metro spot.</li>

<li>The race is brutal: Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, and others are right there in the wild-card mix.</li>

<li>Remaining schedule (5 games left): @ Devils (Apr 7), @ Red Wings (Apr 9), @ Jets (Apr 11), vs. Hurricanes (Apr 13), vs. Canadiens (Apr 14). It&#8217;s a gauntlet—mostly against teams fighting for seeding or spots.</li>
</ul>

<p>Some models give them around 50%+ odds of sneaking in, while others see it as a coin-flip or slightly below depending on how the regulation wins and tiebreakers shake out. A couple more wins in the next week could make it feel a lot more real.</p>

<p>This would end a multi-year playoff drought and give the young core (Michkov heating up, Martone stepping in, contributions from Zegras/Vladar, etc.) a huge confidence boost under coach Rick Tocchet. Even if they fall just short, the late-season surge has been impressive—14 wins in their last 21 or so since the Olympic break.</p>

<p>If they do make it, early projections have them potentially facing the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Battle of Pennsylvania first-round series. That would be pure chaos and exactly what Flyers fans live for.How pumped are you? Think they can hold the spot with this tough closing stretch, or is it going down to the final game? Any bold predictions on who steps up next? </p>

<p>The Flyers have indeed shown inconsistency and struggled in their return from the 2026 Olympic break (which paused NHL play for the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics in February).They entered the break on a rough note, losing 12 of their last 15 games beforehand, which dropped them well out of playoff contention in the Metropolitan Division (sitting in sixth with 61 points, tied near the bottom of the East).</p>

<p>Their first game back was on February 25, 2026, against the Washington Capitals—a 3-1 loss in D.C. It was disappointing and they showed signs of rust: the offense stalled (only one goal from Noah Cates to briefly tie it), they failed to capitalize on late chances, and overall energy felt inconsistent despite some pushback. </p>

<p>Goaltender Dan Vladar was solid, but it wasn&#8217;t enough against a desperate Caps team. This extended their skid to something like 13 of 16 in recent stretches, with low scoring (around 2.44 goals per game in that span).However, they bounced back somewhat the very next night (February 26) on the road against the New York Rangers, rallying from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 overtime win. Matvei Michkov scored twice (including the OT winner), Trevor Zegras had a goal, and Samuel Ersson made key saves. It was a gritty, resilient effort after a shaky start, showing flashes of potential.Overall, the break was hoped to provide a reset after a disastrous January/early February slide, but the immediate result was mixed: rust and offensive woes persisted in game one, though game two offered a spark.</p>

<p>With the trade deadline approaching (March 6) and the team still mathematically alive but facing a steep hill (8+ points out), many observers note ongoing issues like inconsistent breakouts, poor puck management, depth scoring struggles, and questions around lineup decisions under coach Rick Tocchet.</p>

<p>What a massive statement win for the Philadelphia Flyers last night! They absolutely dominated the NHL-leading Colorado Avalanche with a convincing 7-3 victory at Ball Arena on January 23, 2026. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" data-attachment-id="33729" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/podcast-alert-is-oliver-ekman-larsson-the-best-option-for-the-flyers/image-1-4/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1024,576" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-1" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=640%2C360&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=632.4%2C356&amp;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-33729" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=310%2C174&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=60%2C34&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p>This capped off a solid three-game road trip where the Flyers went 2-0-1, picking up 5 out of 6 possible points—huge for their playoff push. Owen Tippett was the star of the show, notching his second career hat trick (plus an assist for a four-point night). </p>

<p>Matvei Michkov chipped in with two goals and an assist, and the team exploded for four goals in the third period to seal the blowout. Sam Ersson was sharp in net too, helping shut down a potent Avs offense that had been rolling at home (they were 20-1-4 there before this loss—only their second regulation home defeat of the season).</p>

<p>This comes after a tough skid, so bouncing back like this against the league&#8217;s best is exactly the kind of momentum-builder the Flyers needed.</p>

<p>Overall, this was a really good road trip—gritty, resilient hockey. What stood out most to you from the game? Tippett&#8217;s performance, the third-period surge, or just the fact they stunned the top team in the league?</p>

<p>The Flyers can end their three-game losing streak tonight—they&#8217;re playing the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center in Buffalo at 7:30 PM EST.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" data-attachment-id="33729" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/podcast-alert-is-oliver-ekman-larsson-the-best-option-for-the-flyers/image-1-4/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1024,576" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-1" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=640%2C360&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=632.4%2C356&amp;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-33729" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=310%2C174&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=60%2C34&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p>Of course, the Flyers have 22-14-8 come in after dropping three straight: a 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on January 12 (extending the skid), a 7-2 loss to them earlier, and an overtime loss to Toronto before that. </p>

<p>This has them sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference, having fallen out of a playoff spot recently despite games in hand on teams ahead.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="265" data-attachment-id="32320" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/summit-logo-2/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?fit=768%2C265&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="768,265" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="summit-logo" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?fit=640%2C221&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i1.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=632.4%2C218&amp;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-32320" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?w=768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=300%2C104&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=310%2C107&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=60%2C21&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><strong>215-752-0560 WWW.SUMMITPUBLICADJUSTERS.COM</strong></figcaption></figure>

<p>Tonight&#8217;s matchup is on TNT, truTV, and HBO Max. The Sabres (24-16-4) are 9th in the East, coming off a 4-3 home loss, but they&#8217;re solid at home (14-6-2). </p>

<p>The Flyers&#8217; need to snap the slump amid a tough stretch, with goals being hard to come by lately.It&#8217;s a winnable road game against a divisional rival—plenty of opportunity to get back on track if they bounce back strong.</p>

<p>The Flyers are a solid and competitive team this season. As of early January 2026, they&#8217;re sitting third in the tough Metropolitan Division and are firmly in the playoff picture about halfway through the 2025-26 NHL season.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" data-attachment-id="33729" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/podcast-alert-is-oliver-ekman-larsson-the-best-option-for-the-flyers/image-1-4/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1024,576" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-1" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=640%2C360&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=632.4%2C356&amp;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-33729" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=310%2C174&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=60%2C34&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p>Under new Head Coach Rick Tocchet (hired in May 2025), they&#8217;ve shown strong depth, beating quality opponents like the Edmonton Oilers (5-2 on January 3) and Vancouver Canucks (6-3 recently). They&#8217;ve played around 40 games with a winning record (references to player stats over 39-40 games suggest something like 21-12-7 or similar, giving them a points percentage good enough for a top-3 divisional spot).</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Trevor Zegras (leading in points, goals, and assists on pace for a strong year)</li>

<li>Travis Sanheim has been a beast for the most part on defense, while logging a ton of minutes nightly</li>

<li>Goaltending from Dan Vladar has been a positive addition</li>
</ul>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">The team are not elite (like perennial contenders), but they&#8217;re definitely a better-than-average team—playoff contenders with momentum heading into 2026. Compared to recent rebuilding years, this feels like a clear step forward.</p>

<p>The Flyers are reeling from forward Tyson Foerster&#8217;s upper-body injury, which occurred during their 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on December 1, 2025. Foerster, the 23-year-old Winger exited in the second period after firing a one-timer on the power play—ironically, just after scoring the Flyers&#8217; lone goal to tie the game at 1-1. </p>

<p>He was seen clutching his arm in visible pain as he headed to the locker room.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" data-attachment-id="33729" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/podcast-alert-is-oliver-ekman-larsson-the-best-option-for-the-flyers/image-1-4/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1024,576" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-1" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=640%2C360&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=632.4%2C356&amp;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-33729" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=310%2C174&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=60%2C34&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Injury Details and Timeline</strong></p>

<p>The Flyers announced on December 2 that Foerster will miss 2-3 months due to the undisclosed upper-body issue. This puts his potential return sometime in late February or early March 2026—likely after the league&#8217;s Olympic break (ending around mid-February). It&#8217;s the latest setback for Foerster, who already dealt with an elbow infection from an injury during the 2025 IIHF World Championship (requiring offseason surgery) and missed four games last month after blocking a shot against Toronto.</p>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Why It Hurts the Flyers So Much</strong></p>

<p>Foerster has been a cornerstone of Philly&#8217;s surprising 14-8-3 start (31 points, clinging to the East&#8217;s second wild card spot). Here&#8217;s the impact breakdown:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Offense: </strong>He leads the team with 10 goals (on pace for 31 over a full season) and has been a key Power Play contributor. His absence leaves a gaping hole in scoring depth, especially with the Flyers relying on balanced attack rather than star power.</li>

<li><strong>Defense: </strong>Foerster&#8217;s two-way play is elite—he&#8217;s sixth in the league for a defensive forward) per The Athletic&#8217;s tracker. He&#8217;s a Penalty Kille staple and smart positional player, making him irreplaceable short-term.</li>

<li><strong>Momentum: </strong>As Flyers&#8217; Head Coach Rick Tocchet noted, it&#8217;s a &#8220;committee&#8221; effort to fill the void, and he admitted the team needs &#8220;5-10% better&#8221; from others to stay in the playoff hunt.</li>
</ul>

<p>Without Foerster, the Flyers&#8217; lines get reshuffled. At today&#8217;s morning skate vs. Buffalo (7:30 p.m. ET on TNT/HBO Max), they looked like:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Zegras &#8211; Dvorak &#8211; Konecny</li>

<li>Michkov &#8211; Couturier &#8211; Tippett</li>

<li>Grebenkin &#8211; Cates &#8211; Brink</li>

<li>Deslauriers &#8211; Abols &#8211; Hathaway</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="265" data-attachment-id="32320" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/summit-logo-2/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?fit=768%2C265&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="768,265" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="summit-logo" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?fit=640%2C221&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i1.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=632.4%2C218&amp;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-32320" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?w=768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=300%2C104&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=310%2C107&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=60%2C21&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><strong>215-752-0560 WWW.SUMMITPUBLICADJUSTERS.COM</strong></figcaption></figure>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Team Response and Replacements</strong></p>

<p>To plug the gap, the Flyers recalled Carl Grundstrom (28, 293 NHL games, 15 points in 19 AHL games this year) from Lehigh Valley. Prospect Nikita Grebenkin and Alex Bump (16 points in 20 AHL games) are in the mix (Eventually for Bump), but management is holding off on Bump after some recent rough outings. Fans and analysts are optimistic about internal fixes but realistic—Foerster&#8217;s &#8220;breakout&#8221; as a confident shooter and defender can&#8217;t be fully replicated.This could test Philly&#8217;s depth through a tough December stretch, but their resilience (e.g., snapping a skid earlier) suggests they won&#8217;t fold. If you&#8217;re tuning in tonight, watch how the top lines gel without him. For more, check the official Flyers update.</p>

<p>The Flyers&#8217; offense has been clicking lately led by Veterans like Trevor Zegras (7 goals in 20 games). Goaltender Dan Vladar has been solid in net, winning four of his last six starts. <p>The Flyers can absolutely overcome their lopsided 5-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on November 15, 2025—it&#8217;s a single game in an 82-game grind, and they&#8217;ve shown resilience earlier this season. But it won&#8217;t happen without addressing some clear issues exposed in that matchup. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" data-attachment-id="33729" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/podcast-alert-is-oliver-ekman-larsson-the-best-option-for-the-flyers/image-1-4/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1024,576" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-1" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?fit=640%2C360&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=632.4%2C356&amp;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-33729" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=310%2C174&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/image-1.png?resize=60%2C34&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p>Let&#8217;s break it down with the context, key problems, and a realistic path forward. The Flyers entered Dallas on the second night of a back-to-back after a grueling 6-5 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues on November 14. <strong>Fatigue showed: </strong>Dallas dominated early, outshooting Philly 18-6 in shot attempts through the first 10 minutes and building a 2-0 lead by the second period. Jason Robertson&#8217;s natural hat trick (three goals in one period) highlighted the Stars&#8217; offensive firepower, while the Flyers managed just 24 shots total against Jake Oettinger&#8217;s 23 saves. Christian Dvorak&#8217;s third-period tally was a consolation prize in a game where Philly was outclassed in transition, zone entries, and defensive coverage.This dropped the Flyers to 9-6-3 (21 points). Dallas, meanwhile, improved to 12-4-3 and extended their home dominance over Philly to nine straight wins (0-5-3 for the Flyers in Dallas since 2014).</p>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Why It Stings (But Isn&#8217;t Fatal)</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Context Matters:</strong> Back-to-backs are brutal—teams go 0-2-0 just 15-20% of the time in the second game league-wide. The Flyers had emptied the tank in St. Louis (six goals scored, overtime, shootout), traveling cross-country immediately after. Dallas, rested and rolling (four wins in a row pre-game), was primed to pounce.</li>

<li><strong>Early-Season Trends:</strong> Philly has now allowed the first goal in six of their last seven games, forcing constant catch-up mode. Goaltender Dan Vladar (2.89 GAA entering) faced 40 shots but couldn&#8217;t overcome the defensive lapses—Dallas scored on transition rushes that left the net exposed.</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="265" data-attachment-id="32320" data-permalink="https://flyersnittygritty.com/summit-logo-2/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?fit=768%2C265&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="768,265" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="summit-logo" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?fit=640%2C221&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i1.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=632.4%2C218&amp;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-32320" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?w=768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=300%2C104&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=310%2C107&amp;ssl=1 310w, https://i0.wp.com/flyersnittygritty.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/summit-logo.jpg?resize=60%2C21&amp;ssl=1 60w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><strong>215-752-0560 WWW.SUMMITPUBLICADJUSTERS.COM</strong></figcaption></figure>

<p>That said, this isn&#8217;t a death knell. The Flyers sit third in the Metropolitan Division (behind the Devils and Rangers) with a top-10 penalty kill. They have already rebounded from a three-game losing streak in October with a five-game win streak. One bad night against an elite Central Division foe (Dallas is second in the West) doesn&#8217;t derail a playoff push.</p>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>How They Overcome It: Keys to Bouncing Back</strong></p>

<p>Tocchet&#8217;s post-game message was blunt: &#8220;We need to be harder to play against&#8230; start faster.&#8221; Here&#8217;s a roadmap based on their strengths and schedule:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table"><table class="has-fixed-layout"><tbody><tr><th>Factor</th><th>Challenge from Dallas Game</th><th>Path to Fix</th><th>Why It Works for Philly</th></tr><tr><td>Starts &amp; Pace</td><td>Conceded early goals; outshot 10-3 in first period</td><td>Practice quick breakouts; lean on forecheckers like Tyson Foerster</td><td>Flyers rank top-5 in hits/game (22.4); use physicality to disrupt like in their Blues win.</td></tr><tr><td>Goaltending/Defense</td><td>Vladar pulled after 4 goals; coverage gaps on rushes</td><td>Rotate Ersson/Vladar; pair rookies (e.g., Oliver Bonk) with vets like Sanheim</td><td>Ersson&#8217;s .915 SV% in recent starts; recent trade for Maxence Guenette adds D-depth.</td></tr><tr><td>Offense Generation</td><td>Just 1 goal on 24 shots; rushed entries</td><td>More puck possession; elevate Michkov/Zegras duo</td><td>Michkov&#8217;s shot volume (8/game avg.); Zegras had 2G+1A vs. Blues—feed the kids.</td></tr><tr><td>Special Teams</td><td>0/1 on PP; killed 1/2 PK</td><td></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>Adam Ginning</strong></p>

<p>Ginning has been loaned to Lehigh, on a conditioning loan. He will be down there for up to 14 days, and this prevents the team from placing him on waivers.</p>
