Giving back to the community has become routine for athletes, and sports organizations to adopt throughout the world. Charity in most cases brings smiles to people’s faces, and it really makes those donating for a cause feel good about themselves.

Slapshot has been the Reading Royals mascot since the team was founded, prior to the start of the 2001-02 season. Moreover, Slapshot was also voted as the best mascot in the ECHL in 2019, thanks to the proud Royals fans that show up on a nightly basis. The Royals mascot is often found on the concourse greeting fans, or within the stands dancing with fans:

After I attended a game in the press area this past Friday. I learned that Slapshot started an initiative with the Reading Royals in bringing care packages to kids that are battling cancer, and fighting other serious illnesses within the community. Items such as blankets, teddy bears, coloring books and crayons, and hats were amongst those items that were brought in for donations before that particular game started.

Talk about an unbelievable cause right!!! Slapshot is always involved in the community, and so are the players and coaches alike. It may seem routine, but the smiles on these young kids faces are priceless. To me it’s no wonder why kids and adults love the Royals, and Slapshot. Your efforts in this cause does not go unnoticed, keep up the great work, you’re truly heroes.

If you would like to donate to this cause you can either send a care package to the address listed below, or call the Royals directly with the number listed below for more information:
